Meet Erin
A Redmond resident since 2006, Erin has deep roots in Central Oregon. She is a proud parent of two girls enrolled in the Dual Language Program in the Redmond School District and enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, including her husband, Sean. Erin has built a career as a nationally certified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter, holding a Bachelor of Science in ASL/English Interpreting from William Woods University and a Master of Arts in Interpreting Studies from Western Oregon University. Since 2003, she has worked professionally as an ASL interpreter, currently serving as the ASL Coordinator at Central Oregon Community College. Her work allows her to engage with a diverse cross-section of the Central Oregon community, giving her a broad understanding of the needs and aspirations of the people the Deschutes Public Library District serves.
Erin’s passion for libraries stems from her own life-changing experiences. As a child, her local library provided the resources and inspiration she needed to pursue her dream of becoming a sign language interpreter. This personal connection fuels her belief in the transformative power of libraries to open doors, foster creativity, and connect people to opportunities. Erin is committed to ensuring that Deschutes Public Libraries continue to serve as hubs of learning, innovation, and community connection for all residents.
In her role on the Library Board, Erin has been instrumental in advancing projects that align with the library’s mission of equitable access to information and resources. She played a key role in celebrating the successful completion of the new Redmond Library, which was finished on time and under budget, and continues to support the remaining 2020 bond projects. Erin is also a strong proponent of collaboration with local partners, educational programming, and initiatives that promote lifelong learning.
Beyond her work with the library, Erin is an active community member, serving on the City of Redmond Parks Committee and participating in library-specific trainings and conferences to further her professional development. She has attended a public meetings training, is registered for the Oregon Library Association conference in April 2024, and is considering the American Library Association conference in Philadelphia in June 2024. These efforts reflect her dedication to continuous growth and her commitment to excellence in her role as a Library Board member.
Erin’s vision for the Deschutes Public Library system is one of inclusivity, accessibility, and innovation. She believes that libraries should be spaces where everyone—regardless of age, background, or ability—can thrive. Erin loves being outside, exploring the natural beauty of Central Oregon and creating lasting memories with her family.
